Teen and two adults charged after brutal group robbery in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. — A man was beaten and robbed by a group he had just met up with in the area of Lansing Street and Nichols Street on Wednesday, prompting a swift response and multiple arrests by Utica Police.

The incident occurred on June 25, when the victim told police he had arranged to meet with an acquaintance and a group of the acquaintance’s friends. While walking with them, the group suddenly threw the victim to the ground and began punching and kicking him.

During the assault, the group stole the victim’s book bag and attempted to take his cellphone. When the victim resisted, the attack continued. He eventually managed to escape and call for help.

Arrests Made After Quick Response

Officers received suspect descriptions and soon located a group nearby matching the information provided. The three main suspects were positively identified, detained, and transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.

The following individuals were charged with second-degree robbery:

  • A 14-year-old juvenile male
  • John Wesby, 18, of Utica
  • Osman Borrow, 20, of Utica

Police have not released additional details about injuries or whether any items were recovered.
