A 33-year-old Smyrna man was arrested last week in connection with a violent home invasion that occurred in April, Delaware State Police announced.
Steven Mauthe was taken into custody without incident on Saturday in Townsend after troopers encountered him during an unrelated investigation. Authorities later linked him to the April 15 assault at a residence on Ivy Ridge Court in Smyrna.
Investigators say Mauthe forced his way into the home, which was occupied by a homeowner and a 76-year-old man, both of whom knew the suspect. During an argument, Mauthe allegedly punched the 76-year-old in the face multiple times before fleeing. He reportedly returned minutes later and attacked the elderly man again, delivering more punches before escaping on foot.
Mauthe was transported to Troop 9 and charged with multiple felony offenses. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $60,000 cash bond.
