3 Maryland Men Charged After Gunfire Rips Through Dover Hotel Room With 3 Children Inside

Dover, DE — Three Maryland men are facing multiple felony charges after gunfire tore through a hotel room occupied by three children late Wednesday night, according to Dover Police. Officers say at least a dozen shots were fired into a room at the Capital Inn on North DuPont Highway, shattering windows and doors while the juveniles inside narrowly escaped injury.

The shooting happened around 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, when police responded to reports of shots fired at the motel.

When officers arrived, they found a hotel room with a shattered window and multiple bullet holes through the door. Inside were three juveniles—ages 17, 13, and 12—at the time of the shooting.

Investigators recovered 12 shell casings at the scene, underscoring the intensity of the gunfire. Despite the damage, no injuries were reported.

A witness told 911 operators they saw suspects fleeing the area in a gray Ford Flex SUV heading southbound on DuPont Highway.

Traffic stop leads to arrests, weapons recovered

A short time later, Delaware State Police located and stopped the vehicle in Camden. Inside were Isaiah Williams, 21, of Salisbury, Maryland; Tashawn Gantt, 24, of Delmar, Maryland; and Keangello Crump, 18, of Eden, Maryland.

Police said the three suspects were wearing the same clothing seen in surveillance footage from the shooting.

Two 9mm handguns were recovered from the SUV, including one reported stolen from Delaware State Police Troop 7.

Dozens of charges filed, high bonds set

All three suspects were taken into custody and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on significant cash or secured bonds.

Williams faces charges including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, reckless endangering, and receiving a stolen firearm, with bail set at $165,100 cash.

Gantt faces similar charges, along with an additional third-degree assault charge, and is being held on $166,100 cash bail.

Crump faces multiple felony charges including reckless endangering and firearm-related offenses, with bail set at $105,100 secured.

Investigation continues

Dover Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the shooting and whether the hotel room or its occupants were specifically targeted.
