Body of Man Found in Schuylkill River

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was discovered in the Schuylkill River. The incident was reported on the evening of June 17, 2024, at approximately 6:16 PM near the 2400 block of Walnut Street in the 9th District.

The deceased, a 30-year-old Black male presently unidentified and referred to as “John Doe,” was found in the river and pronounced dead at the scene at 6:50 PM by Medic 35. The Philadelphia Police Department’s Marine Unit responded to the location and secured the scene for further investigation.

The Criminal Detection Division (CDD) of the Philadelphia Police Department has taken the lead on this case. As of now, the details surrounding the man’s death are unclear, and authorities have not released any information regarding potential causes or circumstances leading to his presence in the water.
