MANAHAWKIN, NJ – The Stafford Township School District is gearing up for an upcoming bond referendum with a Community Information Forum set for August 28. The forum, offering both virtual and in-person participation options, aims to educate residents about the details of the September 17 bond referendum.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Stafford Township Arts Center, located at 1000 McKinley Avenue. For those who prefer to attend remotely, a Zoom link will be provided on the district’s website at staffordschools.org/vote, where a recording of the forum will also be available post-event.
Attendees will hear from the district’s architect and financial adviser, who have played key roles in shaping the referendum proposal. District staff will also discuss how the bond funding will be utilized to benefit the community. Questions about the bond referendum can be submitted by attendees, both in-person and online.
The referendum seeks voter approval for $75.7 million to fund comprehensive improvements across all district buildings. These projects include adding facilities to accommodate growing enrollment, updating fire safety systems, enhancing heating and cooling systems for better efficiency, improving accessibility, and renovating interiors. The state has offered $15.9 million in aid contingent on voter approval, which would reduce the cost burden on local taxpayers.
If approved, the average homeowner would see a monthly tax increase of approximately $22. Superintendent George Chidiac encourages community participation in the forum, emphasizing the importance of understanding how the bond would serve the district and the broader community.
