Couple arrested after beating man during pre-arranged beach encounter for sex

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. — An evening on the beach took a violent turn for a Florida man who was allegedly ambushed and attacked with a hatchet by a man and woman after arranging to meet them for a risky encounter, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday when a “frantic” man, bleeding from multiple injuries, flagged down a Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy near the 1900 block of Ocean Shore Boulevard. The injured man told the deputy he had been assaulted on the beach by a pair he had met up with for what was supposed to be a consensual encounter.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the man had initially connected with 18-year-old Alana Cagle, who agreed to meet him at the beach for a sexual encounter in which he would be tied up. Cagle picked him up from his home, and they drove to Bicentennial Park before heading to the beach on foot.

However, the situation quickly grew tense. The man reported feeling “odd vibes” as Cagle sat several feet away from him rather than engaging with him directly. Despite his unease, he allowed her to begin tying him up with a yellow rope she had brought along. As she did, he noticed another person approaching—later identified as 24-year-old Wayne Streeter.

Sensing danger, the man attempted to free himself, but Cagle allegedly pounced on his legs to hold him down. He managed to shake her off and started to run, only for Streeter to chase him down and tackle him to the ground. The affidavit states that Streeter began choking him while Cagle punched him repeatedly.

The assault escalated further when Cagle allegedly pulled out a hatchet and began striking the victim with it, leaving him with injuries across his body.

The man eventually managed to escape his attackers and flag down a nearby deputy for help. Both Cagle and Streeter were arrested shortly afterward by deputies and now face charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

The investigation remains active, and both suspects are being held in Volusia County Jail.
