Middle River, Md. — A spur-of-the-moment decision to buy lottery tickets at a new location paid off for an Essex woman and her husband, who won $50,000 playing Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game.
The couple, who usually buy tickets at a Royal Farms store, decided to purchase their tickets at a 7-Eleven in Middle River on December 1. While visiting the store for unrelated reasons, the woman bought a few quick-pick tickets from the lottery machine, including a $1 Pick 5 straight bet for the evening drawing.
The tickets went unchecked that night, as the woman was too tired to review them. The next morning, using the Maryland Lottery app, she discovered she had won $50,000. She described feeling overwhelmed and emotional upon realizing her win and quickly called her husband to share the news.
The winner credits her late father for her good fortune and plans to use the prize to help family members and make the holidays extra special for her grandchildren.
The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven #41223, located at 11500 Pocomoke Court in Middle River. The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
