MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on the Capital Beltway early Tuesday morning, according to Maryland State Police (MSP).

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on the inner loop of I-495 East near University Boulevard. Preliminary findings revealed that the pedestrian was walking along the highway when they were hit by a Ford vehicle.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. MSP confirmed that the driver of the Ford remained on-site following the crash.

Several lanes on the inner loop were closed during the investigation but were reopened by 7:30 a.m. as the investigation by state police continues.
