TOMS RIVER, NJ – Two Lakewood men have been indicted for the 2010 murder of Rondell Proctor, a 22-year-old from Arkansas who was gunned down at an apartment complex in Toms River more than a decade ago.

Maurice Cole, 36, and Jerron Evans, 41, were formally indicted by a Grand Jury in Ocean County on April 2 in connection with the fatal shooting, which occurred in the early hours of May 27, 2010.

Police were called just after midnight to the Winteringham Village Apartments on Route 166, where they found Proctor suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso and face. He was transported to Community Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

The case remained unsolved for years despite efforts by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Toms River Township Police Department. Advances in evidence testing ultimately led investigators to Cole and Evans.

The suspects were arrested without incident on December 3, 2024, by detectives from several law enforcement agencies and have remained in custody at the Ocean County Jail.
