WALKERSVILLE, MD — Maryland State Police have arrested a Frederick County man in connection with an attempted child abduction that occurred shortly before he was stopped for driving under the influence on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect, identified as Gary Lee Plummer, 55, of Walkersville, is facing multiple charges, including attempted child abduction, attempted kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault, and driving under the influence. He is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, awaiting an appearance before a district court commissioner.
Troopers conducted a traffic stop around 3:00 p.m. on a red Ford Taurus in the 8700 block of Woodsboro Pike after observing signs of driver impairment. Plummer was arrested at the scene for suspected DUI.
Shortly after the arrest, police received a report from two juvenile females who alleged that Plummer attempted to abduct one of them in the same area. The girls told investigators that Plummer approached them while they were walking and tried to pull one of them into his vehicle before fleeing.
Following interviews and coordination with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Frederick County, troopers filed formal charges against Plummer based on the alleged encounter and victim statements.
Investigation ongoing as police seek more information
Authorities have not released the ages of the juveniles involved, and no injuries were reported. Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and are asking for the public’s help in gathering further details.
