NEW YORK, N.Y. — Police are searching for two individuals who allegedly scammed and robbed a 79-year-old woman out of more than $27,000 in cash and jewelry earlier this month in Harlem.
According to police, the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, near West 138th Street and Broadway. The elderly woman was approached by an unidentified man and woman who engaged her in conversation and presented an alleged winning lottery ticket.
The suspects convinced the victim they would share the lottery earnings with her. After gaining her trust, they threatened to assault her and coerced her into taking them to her residence.
Once inside her home, the suspects removed jewelry and cash totaling approximately $27,500. They then fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on West 137th Street. The victim was not physically harmed during the incident.
The male suspect is described as having a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black medical mask, a blue baseball cap, a white jacket, gray pants, and black sneakers.
The female suspect is also described as having a medium complexion. She was last seen wearing a gray medical mask, a brown bucket hat, brown jacket, blue jeans, and multicolored sneakers.
Investigation ongoing
The NYPD is actively investigating the case and reviewing nearby surveillance footage. No arrests have been made at this time, and the suspects remain at large.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
