VINELAND, N.J. — Associated Humane Societies, the largest animal welfare organization in New Jersey, has formally merged with the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, extending its services into Cumberland County and expanding its statewide presence.
Effective July 1, the merger brings SJRAS under the AHS network, adding a fourth regional shelter to existing locations in Essex, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties. The move is aimed at expanding animal protection services, adoption programs, and community outreach initiatives throughout the state.
“This partnership is an exciting step forward,” said Bob Baerenbach, Board President of AHS. “Together with the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter team, we’re better positioned than ever to protect and care for animals across county lines and into more communities that need support.”
While the organizations will now operate under a unified system, SJRAS will maintain its community presence and continue local operations in Vineland and surrounding areas.
“This is a collaboration rooted in shared values,” said Danielle Mania, Chief Operating Officer of AHS. “We’re combining decades of experience to improve outcomes for animals while expanding access to services across the state.”
The partnership increases AHS’ physical footprint to four counties and expands the reach of its Popcorn Park Animal Refuge in Forked River, as well as its animal protection and adoption programs.

“We are proud to join forces with AHS, an organization whose reach and reputation will help us grow our impact here in South Jersey,” said Robin Ricci, President of South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter.
With the merger, AHS will serve a broader population of animals and residents through an integrated network of shelters spanning the state.
