BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx woman has been charged with multiple counts of murder and manslaughter in connection with the deaths of two newborn boys found unresponsive behind a Highbridge apartment building in 2020, authorities said.

Stephanie Castillo, 36, of Jerome Avenue, was charged with six counts of murder and six counts of manslaughter in the deaths of her sons, identified as Baby Zeke and Baby Zane.

Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020, and discovered the newborns unconscious and unresponsive behind 1460 College Avenue in the 44th Precinct. Both infants were transported to BronxCare Health System, where they were pronounced dead.

The case was classified as a double homicide in April 2022, though no arrests had been made at the time. Investigators continued to pursue leads for nearly five years.

Castillo’s arrest marks a major development in a case that has remained open since the bodies were found on the pavement behind the apartment building.

A $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction had been offered by the City of New York.
