Greenbelt man arrested for ATV assault that injured two DC police officers

WASHINGTON, DC – A 30-year-old Maryland man has been arrested in connection with a March incident in which two Metropolitan Police officers were struck by an ATV in Northwest Washington, police announced Sunday.

On March 15, around 8:14 p.m., officers from MPD’s Third District attempted to stop an ATV in the 1400 block of U Street NW. The driver fled, hitting two officers in the process. One officer sustained significant but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, a DC Superior Court arrest warrant was issued for Gerard Stokes of Greenbelt, Maryland. On August 16, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested him.

Stokes has been charged with felony assault on a police officer.
