Overnight stabbing in Columbia Heights sparks arrest and assault charge

WASHINGTON, DC – A man was arrested early Thursday after a stabbing in the Columbia Heights neighborhood that left one person injured and prompted a swift police response.

The incident occurred around 1:18 a.m. in the 1400 block of Irving Street NW. According to police, witnesses reported that the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim as the man was attempting to run away.

D.C. police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with assault with the intent to kill.

The victim’s current condition has not been released.

Investigators initially described the suspect as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall, wearing a black shirt and gray pants. Police later confirmed that he was apprehended and is no longer at large.
