DC cops nab trio of teens linked to failed robbery and shooting
Washington, D.C. – Three teenage boys, including one from Maryland, were arrested in connection with a botched armed robbery last month that ended with a man being shot in Northeast D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, when a man was shot on the 3700 block of Hayes Street, Northeast. The victim, who survived with non-life-threatening injuries, told police he was approached by two suspects, one of whom pulled a gun and demanded his belongings. Before he could respond, the suspect fired a shot, hitting the man. The pair fled on foot without taking anything.
Following weeks of investigation, detectives identified three suspects involved in the incident. Then, on Wednesday, August 27, officers patrolling nearby spotted the trio in the 3500 block of Jay Street, Northeast and moved in to make the arrests.
The suspects — a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old from Northeast D.C., and a 14-year-old from Suitland, Maryland — were taken into custody and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob While Armed. Police confirmed the arrests were made under DC Superior Court custody orders.
Details on the suspects’ identities remain sealed due to their age, and no information has been released regarding whether they will face charges as adults.
The Sixth District has responded to multiple incidents in the Hayes Street corridor in recent months, but it remains unclear if this shooting is tied to any other open investigations.
