Two Jersey City men charged after multi-vehicle crash injures several

Jersey City, NJ – Two men are facing charges in connection with a July collision on Kennedy Boulevard that left multiple people injured and involved a stolen car, prosecutors announced.

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, 25-year-old Jose Pepin Hernandez Jr. and 21-year-old Kevin Badenath, both of Jersey City, were charged following the July 21 crash near Claremont Avenue.

Investigators determined Hernandez Jr. was driving a stolen Honda Accord when it collided with a Honda Pilot and an Infinity G37 shortly after 10 p.m. Three female passengers in the Accord were hurt, including one who sustained a serious lower body injury. Two occupants of the Pilot suffered minor injuries. All were treated at Jersey City Medical Center.

Police said the driver of the Accord fled on foot before officers arrived. Hernandez Jr. has since been arrested on charges including knowingly leaving the scene of a collision resulting in serious injury, endangering an injured victim, receiving stolen property, assault by auto, and obstruction. He was taken into custody on September 18 by U.S. Marshals and Jersey City Police and is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

Badenath, identified as the driver of the Infinity, was arrested earlier this month on September 4 and charged with assault by auto.

The case remains under investigation.
