Help needed for two huskies at Northern Ocean County Animal Facility

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Two young huskies currently housed at the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility are in urgent need of placement through a 501(c)(3) rescue group or experienced foster home, according to a recent plea from the shelter’s supporters.

The dogs, Lassie and Ivan, are both under 50 pounds and described as dog-friendly, with no issues around cats. However, each has displayed resource-guarding behavior — Lassie with rawhide treats and Ivan with food — making them unsuitable for standard shelter environments without additional support or behavioral guidance.

Lassie, approximately four years old, is a petite female who has shown good behavior around other dogs and cats but becomes possessive when it comes to treats. Ivan, about two years old, is similarly sociable but struggles with food guarding.

The shelter is reaching out specifically to licensed rescue organizations and approved fosters to intervene.
