Traffic stop leads New Kensington officers to cocaine and fentanyl stash
NEW KENSINGTON, PA — A routine traffic stop on Monday night turned into a narcotics seizure after officers say they found suspected cocaine and fentanyl hidden on two men and inside a vehicle near 4th Avenue and 11th Street.
Officers on patrol observed a vehicle fail to stop at two stop signs in the early morning hours of Monday and pulled the car over, according to a police report published to CrimeWatch. An occupant briefly opened a door as officers approached, then returned to the vehicle; officers detected the scent of alcohol on the driver’s breath and had all occupants exit the car. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, officers say they recovered two baggies of suspected cocaine concealed inside the car. A subsequent search of the passengers uncovered additional contraband concealed on the men’s persons.
Police report the total recovered amounted to 48.4 grams of suspected cocaine and 3.4 grams of suspected fentanyl, along with cash and cell phones. Two men, identified as Demetrius Houser and Germaine Alford, were arrested and charged with drug-related offenses. The case is listed as active and criminal in nature; charges are accusations and both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The stop and seizure took place in the area of 4th Avenue and 11th Street; Joe’s Butcher Shop, retail locations, and other unrelated addresses were not involved. Officials note that investigations into possession and distribution remain ongoing and that evidence and digital devices seized will be processed as part of the probe.
The incident summary and case details were posted to the Westmoreland County CrimeWatch portal; the public CrimeWatch listing provides the incident type as Drugs / Narcotics Violation and shows the case status as current.
