DC man shot dead in Southeast home as police arrest woman at the scene

Washington, DC – A 56-year-old man was shot and killed inside a Southeast home early Sunday morning, and police arrested a woman at the scene in what they are calling a domestic homicide.

Officers from the Sixth District rushed to the 3000 block of P Street SE just before 9 a.m. after a report of gunfire. Inside the residence, they found Richard Walker, unresponsive and suffering from a single gunshot wound. Despite efforts by DC Fire and EMS, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker, a resident of the same Southeast neighborhood, was identified shortly after.

As officers secured the scene, they located a woman who had remained on the property. Detectives questioned her and, based on evidence gathered on site, arrested 51-year-old Shawnta Aiken, also of Southeast DC.

She has been charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed. Investigators say the incident was domestic in nature, though no additional details have been released about the relationship between Walker and Aiken.

Police did not report any prior calls to the home or whether the weapon used was legally owned.

The investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to piece together the events leading up to the deadly shooting.
