Elderly woman dies from injuries weeks after North Capitol Street crash
Washington, DC – A woman injured in a late October car crash in Northeast has died from her injuries, nearly two weeks after the accident involving a pickup truck and a sedan near the intersection of North Capitol Street and Girard Street.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 28, around 4:13 p.m., a 2002 Toyota pickup was headed southbound in the 3000 block of North Capitol Street NW. As the driver attempted to turn left onto the unit block of Girard Street NE, the vehicle collided with a 2016 Subaru Impreza and then veered off the road into a tree.
The driver of the Toyota was evaluated at the scene by DC Fire and EMS and did not require hospitalization. His passenger, 86-year-old Isaura De Jesus Arias De Yepes of Northwest DC, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officials confirmed that on Sunday, De Jesus Arias De Yepes succumbed to her injuries. She is now the latest fatality in a growing number of traffic-related deaths in the District this year.
The driver of the Subaru was not injured in the incident. No charges have been announced at this time, and the investigation remains open.
