Backpack stolen in Adams Morgan robbery as suspect arrested minutes later
Washington, DC – A man was taken into custody Saturday evening after allegedly attacking a person and stealing their backpack during a street robbery in the heart of Adams Morgan, police said Monday.
The incident happened around 7:39 p.m. on November 15 in the 2400 block of 18th Street NW. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect approached the victim, assaulted them, and forcibly grabbed their backpack before fleeing on foot.
Officers responding to the call quickly located the suspect nearby and placed him under arrest without further incident.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kantu Grahm, who has no fixed address, was charged with Robbery (Force and Violence). Police did not disclose whether the stolen backpack was recovered or if the victim sustained any injuries.
The case remains under investigation.
