PHILADELPHIA, PA – A woman was struck and killed early Thursday morning when a speeding car ran a red light and hit her in a crosswalk along Market Street, police said.
The crash happened around 4:17 a.m. in the 3300 block of Market Street within the city’s 18th District.
Investigators said a silver Chrysler 300 with tinted windows was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when the driver ignored a red light.
The vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street with others, propelling her several hundred feet down Market Street.
The driver did not stop, continuing eastbound from the scene.

Medics with the Philadelphia Fire Department transported the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was treated for multiple injuries and internal bleeding.
She was later pronounced dead at 4:59 a.m. and identified as 48-year-old Meaza Brown of the 400 block of West Shunk Street.
The vehicle involved has not been located, and the Crash Investigation Division is leading the search for the driver.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to contact police.
