Mechanic hits $100K jackpot on scratch-off during lunch break at Hanover 7-Eleven
HANOVER, VA – A routine lunch break turned into a life-changing moment for Larry Love of Dunnsville when he stopped by a Hanover County 7-Eleven and walked away with a $100,000 winning ticket.
Love, a mechanic and technician for Hanover County, decided to grab a couple of scratch-offs while at the 7-Eleven at 11263 Washington Highway. He picked up two Bonus Spin Crossword tickets and scratched them as soon as he returned to his truck. One revealed a $10 win — and the other, the game’s $100,000 top prize.
Stunned, he scanned the ticket using the Virginia Lottery app to confirm the prize. Once verified, Love said he plans to use the money to pay some bills.
Bonus Spin Crossword is a Virginia Lottery scratch-off game offering prizes between $5 and $100,000. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,224,000. Love is the first to claim the top prize in this game; five more $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed.
Lottery profits in Virginia go toward K–12 public education. Last fiscal year, Essex County, where Love lives, received more than $1.3 million in Lottery funds. Statewide, the Lottery raised over $901 million for education in Fiscal Year 2025, accounting for roughly 10 percent of Virginia’s K–12 school budget.
