Suspect caught after stealing from register in bold DC robbery
Washington, DC — A robbery suspect was detained by a quick-acting victim Saturday evening after allegedly stealing cash from a Southeast DC business, ending the attempted heist before officers arrived.
At approximately 5:22 p.m. on Saturday, a man entered a business located on the 1700 block of Marion Barry Avenue SE and took money directly from the cash register, according to police. Before he could flee, the victim intervened and managed to detain the suspect on-site.
Responding officers from the Sixth District took the man into custody following their arrival and on-scene investigation.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Corey Bender of Southeast DC, was arrested and charged with robbery. No injuries were reported during the incident.
