KEARNY, NJ – Thick smoke poured over a Kearny neighborhood Saturday evening as firefighters and police rushed to contain a residential blaze on Davis Avenue.

The fire broke out between Bergen Avenue and Dukes Street, prompting a major emergency response that is still active as of two hours ago.

Officials urged residents to avoid the area and close windows due to heavy smoke conditions drifting through nearby blocks.

Authorities have not released details about possible injuries or the cause of the fire, and emergency personnel remain on scene conducting suppression and safety operations.

Residents urged to stay indoors

Kearny Police issued a statement on social media asking residents to keep clear of the Davis Avenue corridor while firefighters continue to work. The department also warned that smoke levels remain high and recommended that residents remain inside until air quality improves.

Firefighters continue active suppression efforts

Kearny Fire Department crews are working from multiple sides of the structure to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent homes. Additional support units have been called to assist with water supply and scene safety. Power has been temporarily cut in parts of the area as a precaution.

As emergency operations continue, officials emphasize public cooperation to allow crews unimpeded access to equipment and hydrants along the street.

Residents are asked to monitor official town updates for further information once the fire is fully contained.
