BRONX, N.Y. – A 28-year-old man was arrested after a fatal shooting inside a Bronx apartment building that left another man dead Sunday night.
Police say the incident unfolded around 9:07 p.m. inside 1744 Watson Avenue, where officers responding to a 911 call found a man shot in the head inside a stairwell.
The victim, identified as 38-year-old Gregory Stewart of Barnes Avenue, was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
Sean Grant, 28, of Watson Avenue, was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Investigation continues into motive
Authorities have not released details regarding what led to the shooting or whether the victim and suspect knew each other. The building, located within the 43rd Precinct and Police Service Area 8, was cordoned off for several hours as investigators collected evidence.
Bronx community shaken by latest homicide
Residents of the Watson Avenue complex described hearing loud arguing moments before the gunfire. Several neighbors expressed concern over recent violence in the area, calling for increased police presence and community outreach.
Detectives from the NYPD’s Bronx Homicide Squad are continuing to investigate the incident and are reviewing surveillance footage from the building.
