Man shot in leg crashes hospital run after fleeing Baltimore police stop
Baltimore, MD – A 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound was rushed to a hospital early Saturday morning—not by ambulance, but in a vehicle that fled from officers during a traffic stop in downtown Baltimore, police said.
Around 2:58 a.m., Central District officers attempted to pull over a vehicle that was driving erratically near S. Central Avenue and E. Baltimore Street. Instead of stopping, the vehicle sped off and drove directly to a nearby hospital. There, officers discovered that a passenger inside had been shot in the leg and was seeking emergency treatment.
Medical staff treated the victim for non-life-threatening injuries. He has not been publicly identified.
According to a preliminary investigation, the shooting is believed to have occurred in the 1000 block of Saint Paul Street—about a mile from where officers attempted the stop. It’s unclear whether the victim was targeted or caught in crossfire.
Central District Shooting Detectives have taken over the investigation and are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting. No suspects have been named, and the motive remains unknown.
