Man arrested in fatal Columbia Heights shooting that left victim clinging to life for two days

Washington, DC — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting inside a Columbia Heights apartment building that left a Northeast DC man critically wounded and later dead.

Just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, officers responded to the 3200 block of Hiatt Place NW after reports of gunfire. Inside the building, they found Jermaine McGee-Holmes, 27, semi-conscious and barely breathing from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to an area hospital by DC Fire and EMS, where he remained in critical condition for two days.

On Monday, October 27, McGee-Holmes died from his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Nearly two months later, on Thursday, December 18, Alan Reginald Wilson Jr., 22, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was taken into custody on a D.C. Superior Court warrant. He has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed—Felony Murder.

Officials did not release additional details on a possible motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victim. The case remains under investigation.
