MANHATTAN, N.Y. – A 38-year-old man was slashed in the head after a heated argument aboard a southbound 6 subway train in Midtown Manhattan last weekend, police said.

The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. Saturday inside the 51st Street–Lexington Avenue subway station. According to investigators, the victim became involved in a verbal dispute with another passenger that quickly turned violent.

The NYPD said the unidentified suspect pulled out a sharp object and slashed the victim on the head before fleeing the station on foot. The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt and a green hat.

Transit detectives are asking anyone with information about the assault to contact police as the search for the suspect continues.
