Trenton man charged with arson after suspicious house fire on Fulton Street
TRENTON, NJ — A man is facing multiple charges after investigators say he intentionally set fire to a home just days before the New Year, with detectives linking him to the scene and uncovering additional warrants for unrelated crimes.
Emergency crews were called to 102 Fulton Street on the morning of December 23 after a fire broke out at the residence. Firefighters brought the blaze under control, but the Mercer County Fire Marshal later classified the fire as suspicious, prompting a deeper investigation.
Trenton Police detectives and arson units from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office responded and quickly determined that the fire had been deliberately set. Their investigation identified 36-year-old Christopher Perez, of Whittaker Avenue, as the suspect.
Perez was taken into custody on Tuesday, December 30, and has since been charged with aggravated arson and criminal mischief. During the arrest process, police also discovered Perez had an outstanding warrant stemming from a separate incident in November, leading to additional charges of credit card fraud and receiving stolen property.
Police have not released further details about a possible motive, the extent of the property damage, or whether anyone was injured in the fire.
Perez is currently being held pending court proceedings. Officials have emphasized that all charges are accusations and that the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
