Laurel man kicks off new year with $100K lottery win on Red 5’s Doubler ticket
Laurel, MD — A construction worker from Prince George’s County walked into 2026 with a life-changing surprise after uncovering a $100,000 prize on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off, setting the tone for what could be his most memorable year yet.
The lucky winner, who purchased the Red 5’s Doubler ticket from the 24/7 Convenience Store on Old Sandy Spring Road in Laurel, used a personal strategy of revealing the numbers before scratching the prize amounts. His careful method paid off when number 52 matched and revealed the game’s top $100,000 prize.
The man, who remains anonymous, claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Monday. He said the moment of realization was overwhelming, prompting him to immediately share the news with his parents.
Their reaction was likely just as stunned — especially after he revealed his plans to use the money to buy them a house. Anything left over, he added, will be placed into savings.
The Red 5’s Doubler ticket was launched on Dec. 5 and has quickly risen to become Maryland’s most popular scratch-off. The Laurel winner is the second person to hit the top prize, following a player from Oxon Hill who won in December.
The game still has seven unclaimed top prizes of $100,000 and a wide range of lower-tier winnings. According to the Maryland Lottery, 10 of the original 11 $20,000 prizes also remain unclaimed, along with thousands of prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.
The 24/7 Convenience Store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling a top-tier winner.
