Attempted stabbing call leads to Cumberland arrest as suspect held without bond
CUMBERLAND, MD – A Tuesday morning disturbance at a Queen City Drive business escalated into an arrest after police say a man accused of trying to shoplift then attempted to assault an employee, with a second complaint soon surfacing about threats made inside a government building earlier the same day.
Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded at about 9:32 a.m. for a reported attempted stabbing at a business on Queen City Drive. Police located the suspect nearby and detained him while investigators gathered information from store staff.
According to police, staff reported that the suspect, identified as Drezdin Jose Delgado, tried to steal items from the store. When confronted, Delgado allegedly caused a disturbance and attempted to assault an employee, police said. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
During the arrest process, police said they received another complaint involving Delgado. Investigators were told that earlier Tuesday, Delgado had been inside a government building on Frederick Street and threatened to kill employees.
Delgado, 24, of Springfield, West Virginia, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, theft under $100, and threat of mass violence, police said.
He later appeared before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing. Police said Delgado was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
