North Royalton Woman Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize on Grocery Store Trip
North Royalton, OH — A routine grocery store visit turned into a life-changing moment for a North Royalton woman who purchased a Powerball ticket while shopping at Giant Eagle—and walked away $100,000 richer.
While standing in line on December 22, 2025, she noticed Powerball tickets being sold near her checkout lane. With the jackpot sitting at $1.6 billion, she bought two tickets and headed home.
The next day, before leaving town for the holidays, she decided to check her numbers. Initially thinking she had won $50,000, she called her daughter to confirm the results. To their surprise, it turned out the prize had doubled to $100,000 thanks to the Power Play option.
She matched four white balls and the Powerball (3-18-36-41-54 + 7), with odds of winning that prize at 1 in 913,129.
After federal and state withholding of 26.75%, she will take home $73,250.
She shared that the win has already made an immediate difference in her life. Living on Social Security, she had recently canceled her cable service due to a rent increase. With the prize money, she plans to restore her cable, purchase a new bed, and no longer worry about her monthly bills.
The winning ticket was purchased at Giant Eagle #204, located at 6000 N. Royalton Rd. in North Royalton.
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. The next drawing is Saturday, January 17, 2026, with an estimated jackpot of $179 million.
