Police seek woman accused of stealing nearly $10K in ID theft scheme at North Country credit unions

ELIZABETHTOWN, NY – State investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman suspected of stealing nearly $10,000 by using false identification at two credit union branches in Essex County.

According to New York State Police, the suspect entered the Trail North Federal Credit Union locations on Court Street in Elizabethtown and Meacham Street in Port Henry and allegedly withdrew $9,700 from accounts belonging to other individuals.

The ongoing investigation is being led by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which believes the woman used fraudulent identification documents to access and withdraw funds from victim accounts.

Images of the suspect were shared publicly Wednesday as part of the effort to identify her. Police did not say when the incidents occurred but confirmed both branches were targeted in the same scheme.

The suspect has not yet been named, and police are urging anyone with information on her identity to contact the New York State Police at (518) 873-2750.
