LANDOVER, MD – A 48-year-old man was killed in a shooting Wednesday evening in Landover, setting off a homicide investigation by Prince George’s County authorities.
The victim was identified as Curtis Thornton Jr. of Capitol Heights, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
The shooting occurred around 6:40 p.m. in the 2400 block of Brightseat Road, where officers responding to reports of gunfire found Thornton Jr. suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives assigned to the department’s Homicide Unit are working to determine what led up to the shooting and whether more than one suspect may be involved. No arrests have been announced.
Investigators said the case remains active and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward as they continue to canvass the area.
