Traffic stop leads to drug arrest after K9 alert on Maryland highway

Owings, MD — A routine overnight traffic stop in Calvert County escalated into a drug arrest after a police K9 alerted officers to suspected narcotics inside a vehicle.

The stop occurred around 2:13 a.m. April 12 along Solomons Island Road near Skinners Turn, according to authorities.

Deputy McIntosh initiated the stop for a traffic violation, and additional units, including a K9 team, responded to the scene. The K9 conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled substances.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of a yellow capsule containing approximately one gram of suspected crack cocaine.

Gerald Calvin Creek, 64, of Sunderland, was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.

He has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not classified as cannabis.
