A stolen vehicle report at a Meadowlands hotel led to a multi-agency investigation and arrest.
SECAUCUS, NJ – A reported overnight vehicle theft at a Meadowlands Parkway hotel earlier this month ended with the arrest of a Wallington man following a coordinated investigation between Secaucus and Wallington police.
The incident began on April 11, 2026 at 12:19 a.m., when officers responded to the Extended Stay Hotel at 1 Meadowlands Parkway after a guest reported their 2014 Nissan N20 had been stolen from the parking lot. Hours later, at 8:24 a.m., Wallington Police located the vehicle on Main Avenue, prompting Secaucus detectives to travel to the scene and launch a follow-up investigation.
Investigation leads to suspect identification
Detectives working the case identified Jonnathan Montoya, 36, of Wallington, as the suspect connected to the stolen vehicle. The investigation progressed over the following days, culminating in an arrest nearly two weeks later.
On Thursday, Secaucus Police detectives arrested Montoya at his residence in Wallington. He was subsequently charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle [2C:20-10.1(a))] and transported to the Hudson County Jail.
“Secaucus Detectives will work tirelessly to apprehend individuals who commit crimes in Secaucus,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “I praise their diligent work, but I thank them for their dedication.”
Charges and legal status
Montoya remains in custody as the case proceeds through the legal system. Officials emphasized that the charge is an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The recovery of the stolen vehicle within hours of the report and the subsequent identification of a suspect highlight the role of inter-agency coordination in resolving property crimes across municipal lines.
