MS-13 members get 12 years for machete attacks at park and laundromat
Mineola, NY — Two teenage MS-13 gang members have been sentenced to prison after carrying out a series of violent attacks that left eight people injured in Nassau County.
Kelvin Martinez, 19, and Pedro Martinez Velasquez, 19, were each sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.
The pair pleaded guilty in February to charges including conspiracy, attempted murder, and assault.
Prosecutors said the first attack occurred on October 20, when the defendants and others targeted six victims playing soccer at Kennedy Memorial Park in Hempstead. Investigators said the group jumped a fence, assaulted the victims, and used knives and a machete during the attack.
Victims suffered multiple injuries, including stab wounds and deep lacerations. One victim required surgery after being stabbed in the torso.
Authorities said the second incident took place December 18 in the parking lot of a laundromat in Uniondale. Two victims were attacked with a machete and metal pipes, suffering cuts and head injuries.
Police located the suspects within minutes of the second attack and took them into custody.
The case was investigated and prosecuted by Nassau County authorities with assistance from law enforcement partners.
