Hospital escapee back in custody after Baltimore arrest
BALTIMORE, MD — A prisoner who escaped police custody while receiving treatment at a Baltimore-area hospital has been captured days later after officers spotted him walking down a city street, police said Wednesday.
Baltimore Police identified the escapee as Brian Myers, who fled custody on May 8 while hospitalized for treatment connected to earlier criminal charges.
Authorities said Myers was re-arrested Tuesday around 6:20 p.m. in the 900 block of Harlem Avenue.
Western District patrol officers encountered Myers walking in the area and took him into custody without incident, according to police.
Following the arrest, Myers was transported back to a hospital to continue treatment for his original injuries while remaining under police guard.
Once released from medical care, Myers will be transferred to the Central Booking Intake Facility.
Police said he now faces additional charges related to the escape, along with previous robbery and handgun violation charges already pending against him.
Investigators continue examining how Myers managed to escape police custody at the hospital earlier this month.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding the escape.
