A Wilmington man was arrested after Newark police said officers found a felony-level quantity of crack cocaine and prescription pills during a traffic stop linked to a shoplifting investigation.
NEWARK, Del. — A Wilmington man is facing felony drug charges after a traffic stop in Newark led to the discovery of crack cocaine and prescription medication, according to police. The arrest occurred June 2 when members of the Newark Police Department Street Crimes Unit stopped a vehicle connected to a shoplifting investigation being handled by another agency.

Police said officers observed the vehicle traveling on South College Avenue at approximately 10:15 a.m. and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Donelle Harris, 44, of Wilmington.
Drugs allegedly found during investigation
During the investigation, authorities said Harris was found in possession of a felony-level quantity of crack cocaine along with Oxycodone/Acetaminophen pills. Officers took him into custody without incident and transported him to Newark Police headquarters for processing.
Harris was charged with Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity and Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, according to police.
Court appearance and release
Following his arrest, Harris appeared before Justice of the Peace Court No. 2. Court records cited by police indicate he was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
The investigation remains part of the circumstances surrounding the traffic stop and the separate shoplifting case that initially drew officers’ attention to the vehicle. Police have not released additional details about that investigation.
