CLEVELAND, Ohio — A forgotten lottery ticket tucked away in a car’s glove compartment led a Cleveland man to give an old set of numbers one more chance, a decision that turned into a $25,417 Pick 5 jackpot.
The winner told the Ohio Lottery that he had played the same numbers in the past but eventually stopped using them after they failed to produce a winning ticket.
One of the old tickets remained in his glove compartment and was later rediscovered, prompting him to replay the numbers on Friday, May 8.
This time, the numbers hit.
The evening Pick 5 drawing produced the winning combination of 3-2-5-5-8. The man’s 50-cent wager won him $25,000, and a 60-way backup added another $417, bringing his total prize to $25,417.
The winner said he could not believe he had won.
After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 26.75%, he will receive $18,617.95.
The winning ticket was purchased at Mike’s Convenient Food Mart, located at 1929 S. Taylor Road in Cleveland.
Pick 5 drawings are held daily at 12:29 p.m. and 7:29 p.m. statewide. Saturday evening drawings are held during the Cash Explosion television show.
Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education across the state.
