Virginia woman visits dad in Maryland and leaves with a $50K lottery jackpot

Virginia grocery stop turns into $50000 Maryland Lottery jackpot for visiting daughter

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A routine visit from a Virginia woman to see her father in Maryland turned into a $50,000 windfall after she made a quick stop at an Anne Arundel County grocery store and bought a Bonus Match 5 ticket that ended up delivering the game’s top prize.

The woman, who lives in Virginia’s Tidewater region, was visiting her father when she stopped at Lucky’s Superette at 1101 Odenton Road in Odenton on June 12. While at the store, she purchased a $2 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket, a game that offers players three chances to win.

After returning home to Virginia, she checked her ticket and discovered that one of the three number combinations matched all five of the first numbers drawn, securing the $50,000 top prize.

The winner said she was both nervous and excited after realizing she had won. Her first call was to her father, with whom she shared the news.

A federal employee, the woman told Maryland Lottery officials that she plans to use part of the winnings for a vacation. The remainder of the prize money will be placed into savings.

The winning ticket was sold by Lucky’s Superette, which will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling a top-prize-winning Bonus Match 5 ticket.

The June 12 purchase turned an ordinary trip across state lines into a jackpot that will fund a vacation and bolster the winner’s savings account.
