SEAFORD, DE – Delaware State Police say the fatal hit-and-run occurred Friday at about 2:10 p.m. along Woodpecker Road, west of Butler Branch Road. The victim, a Seaford man, was riding eastbound along the south edge of the roadway when an unknown vehicle traveling in the same direction approached and struck him.
The driver did not stop and continued eastbound, leaving the bicyclist critically injured in the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and vehicle search underway
“The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash,” state police said. “Investigators believe the suspect vehicle may have damage to the passenger side, possibly near the turn signal housing.”
Woodpecker Road remained closed for approximately four hours as troopers examined the scene and cleared debris. Authorities have not released a description of the vehicle beyond the suspected damage.
