FEDERALSBURG, Md. – A fire that damaged the Church of the Nazarene in Federalsburg last month has been ruled arson following a joint investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set after examining its origin and cause, according to the State Fire Marshal. The ATF is now offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

State and Federal Investigators Rule Church Fire Arson
Deputy State Fire Marshals worked alongside special agents from ATF’s Baltimore Field Division to investigate the fire at the Church of the Nazarene in Federalsburg.
“Investigators have determined the fire was intentionally set,” the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said.
The announcement follows what the agency described as “an extensive investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.”
Authorities did not disclose in the announcement how investigators determined the fire was deliberately set. They also did not identify a suspect, describe a possible motive or release information about how the fire may have been started.
The investigation is now focused on finding the person or people responsible for the arson.
ATF Offers Up to $5,000 for Information
ATF’s Baltimore Field Division is offering the financial reward as investigators seek information from the public that could move the case forward.
“ATF is now offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire,” the State Fire Marshal’s Office said.
Anyone who knows something about the fire is being urged to contact investigators, even as authorities have released few details about what evidence they have gathered.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced any arrests.
