WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Prince George’s County Police Department located and arrested the suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in the Town of University Park in November 2021. The suspect is 18-year-old Andres Aguilar of University Park. He’s charged in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Luis Miguel Utrera of Hyattsville.

On November 17, 2021, at approximately 2:35 pm, officers from the University Park Police Department responded to the 4000 block of Underwood Street for the report of a shooting and vehicle crash. Officers located the victim in the driver’s seat of a car which had struck a tree. The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on the scene.

On January 19, 2022, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service led Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), Aguilar was arrested and taken into custody in Washington, DC. The preliminary investigation revealed that he shot the victim during a drug-related robbery. Aguilar is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He is currently in custody in Washington, DC, pending extradition to Prince George’s County.

The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that occur in the Town of University Park.
