BROOKLYN, NY – Vitaliy Konoplyov, a 49-year-old resident of Coney Island, Brooklyn, has been recently indicted for multiple charges related to a fatal car crash that occurred on March 20, 2023. The charges include second-degree manslaughter, second- and third-degree assault, criminally negligent homicide, and second-degree reckless endangerment.
According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Konoplyov was driving a 2015 white Toyota Camry southbound on 18th Avenue at high speed. He reportedly ignored several red lights, eventually colliding with a 2016 black Honda HR-V that was being driven eastbound on 64th Street by Stancho Stanchev, 51.
The impact caused Stanchev’s vehicle to spin out of control, jump the curb, and strike 65-year-old pedestrian Leung Yuet. Stanchev’s vehicle then collided with a 2021 silver Chevy Equinox driven by a 71-year-old man. Tragically, both Yuet and Stanchev were pronounced dead at the scene. Konoplyov’s reckless driving also resulted in five other people sustaining injuries of varying severity.
Following his arraignment before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun, Konoplyov is being held on bail of $1 million bond or $250,000 cash. A return to court is scheduled for June 21, 2023, where further proceedings related to his 20-count indictment will take place.
