SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – Lavon Dawson, a 27-year-old resident of Coram, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. This follows his conviction in March 2023 on gun and drug charges stemming from a 2021 traffic stop.
Dawson had been on parole at the time of these offences. He was found guilty before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro for one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, and one count of Resisting Arrest.
Evidence from the trial revealed that on February 27, 2021, officers of the Suffolk County Police Department discovered a loaded .380 caliber pistol under his seat during a traffic stop near Barbara Lane in Medford. Following a short chase, Dawson was apprehended and a plastic bag containing over half an ounce of heroin was found near his wallet.
Dawson was previously convicted in 2014 for Robbery in the First Degree and had been released in July 2020. As of Thursday, he has been sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
