Labor Day: What’s Open and What’s Closed

September 4, 2023

NEW YORK, NY – With Labor Day marking the end of summer, many Americans are planning their final barbecues or getaways. However, for those needing to run errands, it’s crucial to know which establishments will be open or closed.

Major grocery stores like Walmart, Target, and Kroger have announced they will be operating on their normal schedules.

Walgreens and CVS stores will also maintain regular hours, although CVS advises customers to call local stores for specific pharmacy hours.

Costco, the wholesale retailer, will be closed on Labor Day.

The United States Postal Service will not be operating. UPS services will also be shut down, with the exception of Express Critical. FedEx will only operate its Custom Critical service, while FedEx Office service hours will be modified.

All major banks will be closed due to the federal banking holiday, but ATMs and online banking services will remain accessible.

Both the NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange have confirmed they will not be trading on Labor Day.

Federal offices and buildings will be closed, affecting services such as the DMV and local libraries. State and local courts will also remain closed for the day.

Most local municipalities will be closed and garbage collection shifted to another day. Check with your local town for more information.

As the country commemorates the American labor movement, those who need to get last-minute chores done should plan according to these schedules.
