DOVER, DE – Akiara Deshields, a 32-year-old resident of Dover, was arrested by Delaware State Police on Friday evening for identity theft and other related felonies.
On July 14, troopers were dispatched to the 500 block of West Market Street in Georgetown, Delaware, following a report of fraud. A 51-year-old male from Millsboro, Delaware, found his Fulton Bank account fraudulently overdrawn and on the verge of closure.
Financial Crimes Unit detectives conducted further investigations and discovered multiple fraudulent transactions on the victim’s account. Deshields was identified as the suspect who had used the victim’s ATM card and forged a check in his name. Both the 51-year-old victim and Fulton Bank incurred undisclosed financial losses due to these fraudulent activities.
An arrest warrant was issued for Deshields, and she was subsequently arrested on Friday, by the Georgetown Police Department. She faces multiple charges, including felony identity theft, possession of instruments facilitating identity theft, and second-degree forgery.
Deshields was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was released on her own recognizance. Delaware State Police asked anyone with additional information to contact their Financial Crimes Unit.
